K|NGP|N BETTER THAN #1?
For many people, getting to the top is an effort and
a half, let alone maintaining it. But holding top spot
with seemingly few little hassles: that’s legendary.
With a stranglehold on HWbot’s rankings, there
seems little motivation to publically improve upon
already top results. Nonetheless, k|ngp|n’s HWBotlisted
world record for 3DMark01 shows a 130K result
done on an eVGA 790i FTW motherboard with a pair
of eVGA GTX 280s in SLI.
However, he has since unofficially broken this
record and with the way in which he casually presents
his ‘backup’ result on the forums, you’re only left
guessing how many more aces are up his sleeve. This
time around it was a blistering 131K result on the
same system. However, what was perhaps the most
stunning part of the result, was that the FSB frequency
used was a huge 620MHz (625MHz stable also
achieved during benching) on the 790i motherboard
– a feat that left many jaws on the ground.
The king of the 790i chipset also demonstrated the
stunning ability to run a 3DMark06 stable quad core
on a 502MHz FSB and with memory running at DDR3-
2008 and 7-6-6-18 1T. This man is called the king of
790i for a reason!
With such stunning progression we’re left
wondering what will be achieved with both k|ngp|n
and Shamino now working for eVGA.
AMD ATI’S RADEON HD 4870 X2
RELEASE CREATES HAVOC FOR 3D
RESULTS!
Since our last issue the HD 4870 X2 has been
released by the red-themed silicon army that is AMD
ATI. With effectively two HD 4870 cards on a single
PCB, the HD 4870 X2 brings to the party a monstrous
amount of performance in both the single card
and multi-card categories. As a result, we’ve seen
records fall left, right and centre. Check out this list
for the decimation:-
3DMark Vantage single card:- k|ngp|n 19,843
3DMark Vantage multi-card:- k|ngp|n 29,676
3DMark06 single card:- k|ngp|n 30,679
3DMark06 multi-card:- giorgioprimo 33,388

3DMark05 single card: No_Name 42,236
3DMark05 multi-card: AndreYang 45,057
3Dmark03 single card: mickeymouse 115,235
3DMark03 multi-card: Gautam 163,688
But the HD 4870 X2 doesn’t quite claim all the
3DMarks: the green team hold fort in both single
and multi-card results for 3DMark01 (see above).
Additionally there is an air of suspicion in regards to
consistency in the results achieved in 3DMark03.
Nonetheless, the HD 4870 X2 has continued the
feats initialised by the HD 4850 and HD 4870 and
is giving AMD ATI some much deserved spotlight
for a very strong product range. Congratulations
to k|ngp|n, giorgioprimo, No_Name, AndreYang,
mickeymouse and Gautam for your collective results.
