PRO GAUGES THE WIND CHILL FACTOR

never forget.
With the back panel removed and an additional 2GB
of system memory added in the form of a Kingston
DDR2-667 SO-DIMM, he placed a hulking Astra CPU pot
onto the unsuspecting victim and came away with
a stellar 2,315MHz overclock!
Some felt the score should be higher but the vCore
was the limiting factor. Now it’s time for the volt mods
and more voltage. We’re all waiting for part two, pro!

SOUTH AFRICAN APPRENTICE TAKES
A STEP CLOSER TO ‘MASTER’
The featured overclocker in this issue’s interview, Vivi,
has stepped up to the plate to etch out a place in the
OC history books with an amazing DDR2-1,659MHz
overclock. This was done using an Intel Core 2 Duo
E8600, Gigabyte EP45-UD3R, OCZ Flex XTC PC2-9200
2 x 1GB and an MSI 9600GT.
With the CPU and GPU on air but with a makeshift
LN2 container for the memory, Vivi went about
destroying the boundaries of DDR2 overclocking and
leaving a lasting impression on the Gigabyte Dual
Channel DDR2 overclocking competition. He’s currently
in fi rst place and likely to take the US$1,500 fi rst prize.

INTEL CORE i7 GEMS START
TO APPEAR
Overclockers worldwide have begun their search for
the gem chips, and a number of good clocking Core i7
965 processors have already surfaced. On the list of
lucky fi nds are:-
Super Pi 32M stable @ 5,056MHz by Team Japan’s
Omega3 with LN2
Super Pi 32M stable @ 5,021MHz by Team Japan’s
Newbeetle with LN2
Super Pi 32M stable @ 5,104MHz by Pedro Rocha with
mini-cascade
5GHz 3DMark 06 stable and Super Pi 32M stable @
5,129MHz by Andre Yang
5.04GHz 3DMark 06 stable by Team Japan’s Booooon
5.5GHz validation by Team Japan’s Duck with LN2 and
a Rampage II Extreme.
World’s fastest: Duck
But, for every chip that surfaces as a wild
overclocker, there are an unfortunate number of those
which are quite simply duds. And, at the price point
that the unlocked Core i7 965 currently sits at, fi nding
an overclocking dud is a pretty hard thing to swallow.
