1. This version of darts was developed in the USA in 1977
2. There are two types of darts machine available:
A) Bar/Pub versions (fig.1) - these are coin operated.
B) Home games (fig.2) - which offer similar features to the pub games.
but which are free to play (see the Electro 180 game on page 55).
3. The weight specified on packaging includes one pointed dart barrel, one shaft, one
flight and one tip.
4. In tournament play the maximum allowable weight for a dart is 20 grams. This does vary
from country to country, according to individual regulations of the specific territory.
5. Softip darts can be thrown at a bristle dartboard, for increased safety and fun play.
6. There are 9,776 scoring holes on an Electro 180 dartboard scoring area.
7. The “tip” of a softip dart is made of a softer plastic than the type
that is used for the dartboards. It is designed this way so
that the plastic of the tip will fractionally reduce as it
penetrates the hole in the board.
8. Softip points will bend and break during play.
This is normal and consequently all
players carry spare tips with them.
9. The concept of the scoring for softip is the
same as steeltip except that with softip if a
dart bounces out from a scoring area, the points
scored will count. In steeltip darts, if there is a
bounce out, that dart does not score.
10. Because of their lighter weight, softip darts do not need
large flights. Flights with a smaller Wing Surface Area (WSA)
are therefore more popular amongst Electronic Darts players.
