Hey Larry, how are you?
PROCESS
Across the pond in Atlanta, Georgia, we caught up with Larry Luk
of the highly creative design company, PROCESS.
I’m good, thanks for asking. I’m just trying to get
through the work day. Although, my work days
don’t really end until I go to sleep.
...and The Process?
If you’re asking about the people behind Process, I
would say that we’re busy. We’re a group of graphic
designers, photographers, branding experts,
boutique owners, musicians, web-developers, and
bloggers, that are all invested into this big idea at
different levels. On top of that, everyone has their
own main gig, and Process is an organic offspring
of everyone’s creative energies combined. I guess
you could say that movers and shakers in Atlanta
are down with the Process.
If you’re asking about our clothing line, we’re doing
well with it. We’ve had only great feedback
and excitement from people viewing the line for
the first time. Atlanta’s brand-aware young people
have embraced Process as their own through our
directed design and concepts. In other words, they
get what we’re about. Naturally, they would want
to back something that is designed with concept,
that is truly original, and that reps where they’re
from. We’re still working on being carried by a few
more specialty boutiques nationwide/worldwide
that we would like to align our brand with. It is
still up in the air to see which stores will take this
opportunity to lead, and who will follow. With the
state of the economy here in the US, many stores
are not willing to take risks on an upstart line. The
upside of that notion is that we aren’t trying to be
in every store imaginable. We’re producing our
line with the intention of connecting the owner of
our product to ourselves on a very personal level.
Therefore, everything has to be exclusive to those
who have sought us out.
How would describe your daily routine?
In addition to working on the Process collection,
I own a graphic design company with my
cohorts called, Epidemik Coalition
(http://epidemikcoalition.com), and we’re always
doing special projects around town, so
my daily routine is packed full of client meetings,
designing, research for future projects,
blogging, promoting events on social networking
sites, and always finding time to chop it up
with my boys at Standard
(http://standardatl.com). If I’m lucky, I get to eat
lunch.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
There’s never a dull moment. Whether it’s making
on-the-spot decisions, landing clients, and
creative visual communications, there are always
opportunities to meet great people and
generate a positive undercurrent in our city. Not
to mention, I get “Hey cool shirt” comments every
day.
What was the inspiration or idea behind the
name Process?
If you watch television, you can’t go for long
without hearing the word “process.” If you talk
to any good creative, they’ll tell you about the
creative process. The process (journey), is the
best part of any creative effort. If you learn to
enjoy that, you’ll do more impactful and meaningful
work. There isn’t any other way to put it.
Everyone wants to know about the Process. It’s
the best part of any project.
