RUSS CHIMES
What kind of feedback do you get back from your
fans?...
He replies, “Well, a short while after I had released
“Mulsanne” to the blogs, a guy contacted me from
Australia with, “Fuck! Dude! I just got a speeding fine
because I had “Mulsanne” playing in my car! I was
driving so fast that my license was taken away from
me!”
I think that’s my proudest moment in my career so
far.”
“Are you guys ok for drinks?”
Actually yeah, could we grab a couple of Corona’s
please?
After waiting five minutes or so Russ returns from
the bar drinks in hand, Corona’s with lime, humming
the catchy Estelle ft Kanye West track American Boy
that was currently playing in the background.
With a mini album in the bag set to release around
February which will include eight tracks and a guest
appearance from singer/producer Anorak, with others
yet to be confirmed things are going really well
for the twenty six year old master of synth’s.
When asked how the writing and recording of the
album were progressing he replied, “I find the hardest
thing about producing is never knowing when to
stop…”
“The shortest i have spent on track so far has been
four days and the longest, four months. The thing
about finishing a song is once it’s finished, it has your
name on it, and that’s how good you are.”
Short on time we decided things would progress
quicker if we fired questions at the boy wonder.
So Justice have their cross, Daft punk have their robot
suits. What’s Russ Chimes live brand?
“There isn’t anything like that that I really connect
myself with. So I think it’s just the music. Yeah, searing
synths!” He laughs.
Who would you most like to collaborate with at the
moment?
“If I could work with anyone at the moment, it would
have to be Lifelike. He’s amazing!”
If you could, whom would you bring back from the
dead?
“Erm…I really don’t know! I’d have to email you the
answer…there are so many!”
Favourite guitarist?
“Carlos Santana…or David Gilmore”
Favourite road kill?
Russ laughs, “Erm… Deer!”
“Er… yeah! I remember when I was 17 my mate Alex
had just passed his driving test, so he brought his
old Golf round to mine so we could go for a bit of a
cruise (not as in cruising for ass, just general cruising…)
anyway we were driving through this forest
close to Ascot, we had hiphop banging on the stereo
when… THUD CRACK!.. “what the fuck was that!?”
We’d totally hit a deer, probably in the face. Turns out
that within 2 hours of passing his test, Alex had already
fully taken out a woodland creature, next was
to take on a motorway…” said Chimes, leaving us in
hysterics.
We finished our drinks. Russ started to neatly tie his
over-sized scarf around his neck to prepare himself
for the cold times ahead. We shook hands and said
our goodbyes. He left for the station.
