Horrific scenes

1 Men Behind the Sun
(tF Mous, 1987)
This film literally piles on the
extreme gore – how about the
vomit-inducing scene in which
a hapless bloke is forced into
a decompression chamber?
Yes, eventually his intestines
explode out of his rectum,
all whilst curious onlookers
peer in at him, helpless.
2 CanniBal Ferox
(umberto lenzi, 1981)
Of the numerous gruesome
scenes you can choose from,
most gore hounds’ favourite
scene is when actress Zora
Kerova gets suspended on
meat hooks driven through her
breasts. Witness her hanging
there for ages while her friend
can only pray, “Oh God, please,
let her die soon” as she suffers
in unrelenting agony.
3 the new York ripper
(lucio Fulci, 1982)
The killer speaks in a demented
Donald Duck style voice when
tormenting the police and
mutilating his female victims,
which is just one of the reasons
this has been deemed as
offensive misogynist trash.
But don’t let that put you off
seeing it. The stand out scene
here is when a hapless young
woman is tied to a bed and
literally razored to death, with
excruciating close-ups of the
blade tearing her stomach, then
her nipple and face – and then
right through her eyeball!
4 irrÉverSiBle
(Gasper noé, 2002)
Following on seamlessly from
his unrelentingly grim I Stand
Alone, the stand out scene here
(no, it’s not the unrelenting
rape scene with Monica
Bellucci, you sickos) is set in
a gay club called ‘Rectum’.
Here, a guy gets his head
bludgeoned to a pulp with the
base of a fire extinguisher (he’s
hit 23 times, I just counted).
5 CanniBal holoCauSt
(ruggero deodato, 1979)
The remaining members of
a documentary film crew are
attacked by cannibals. One is
killed with a spear and then
has his cock sliced off. He’s
then bludgeoned to a bloody
pulp, cooked and eaten. Then
the woman of the team is
stripped naked, gang raped,
and again beaten to a pulp.
The remainder are offed in
a similar grisly manner – it’s
all very disturbing.
