More Power to You
As the speed increases the petrol engine kicks
in to produce more power. When a sudden burst
of acceleration is needed, in overtaking for instance,
the power of the petrol engine combines with the
power of the electric motor to create a maximum
surge of power.
Recharge Your Battery
At cruising speed, the petrol engine drives the
wheels and this motion recharges the electric
motor’s battery. When braking, the petrol engine
switches off and the car recaptures that energy from
the braking system to recharge the electric motor’s
battery.
The petrol engine will also recharge the electric
motor’s battery at any speed if the charge level
requires it.
All this means that the Prius never needs to be
plugged in, has fuel economy better than a diesel
engine at 4.1l /100km*, goes from 0-100km/h in
10.4 seconds AND cuts CO2 emissions to 94g/km.
1 The Energy Monitor displays the current operating conditions of the engine and the flow of electric power. It allows drivers to understand the basic energy
flow of the Hybrid system
