BOOKSCAN CHARTS: FICTION WEEK ENDING 9TH AUGUST 2008
CRIME PAYS Robinson, Billingham and Rankin cap strong week for crime capers
Highest of seven new
entries, and in the
runner-up spot, is All the
Colours of Darkness by
Peter Robinson. His titles
have sold more than 1.5
million copies through
the TCM to date, while
Mark Billingham’s first
standalone thriller, In
the Dark, enters in fourth
position.
Alan Moore’s graphic
novel Watchmen,
published by Titan, bursts
into the original fiction
and heatseekers lists 21
years after its publication
and seven months ahead
of the film adaptation’s release next
March.
As Daniel Silva’s The
Secret Servant holds top
spot for a second week,
five new entries grace
the heatseekers chart,
including Alan Moore’s
Watchmen (see original
fiction).
The highest is Sophie
Gee’s début The Scandal of
the Season, a fictionalised
account of the true story
behind Alexander Pope’s
poem The Rape of the
Lock. Lisa Lutz’s début,
The Spellman Files, and
fellow débutante Jennifer
McMahon’s suspense thriller Promise Not
to Tell also make the cut, as did The English
Patient author Michael Ondaatje’s latest,
Divisadero.
