Which festivals are you playing
this summer?
Primavera, Barcelona
Latitude, Suffolk
Melt Festival, Berlin
Summer Sundae, Leicester
Beachdown Festival, Brighton
Moseley Folk Festival In Birmingham - this
one is partly curated by Bob.
Which festival have you most enjoyed in
the past and what made it special?
We’ve played at Benicassim in Spain a few
times and found a hotel walking distance
away, so you could spend most of the day in
beach bars etc, the bands don’t come on til
dusk so you’re not missing anything. Always
a really good line up and the crowd always
rise to the occasion. Also have a fond for
spot for Lollipop festival in Sweden which
sadly finished a few years ago.
Which of your festival appearances was
the most memorable? And why?
Glastonbury 1993 was the first festival we
played. Walking out onto the main stage
on a sunny afternoon and seeing a sea of
faces was mindblowing. After the gig, slightly
worse for wear, me and Sarah walked
uninvited into a live TV interview meant for
the Beastie Boys and confused the host
with some surreal answers .Next time
we did glastonbury was memorable in a
different way as my keyboard riser became
unattached and every time I moved my legs
I drifted nearer to the front of the stage.
What is the best festival performance
you have ever seen?
Bizarrely it was Motorhead at a festival in
Denmark
What was your worst festival
experience?
I fell asleep on stage at a festival in
Sweden and had to be whipped into
action with a towel by our tour manager.
Name three classic festival songs.
Heroes – David Bowie
Higher than the Sun – Primal Scream
Motorcycle Emptiness – Manic Street
Preachers
Who would headline your dream
festival?
Neil Young
Kraftwerk
The Bee Gees
How would you describe this festival
feeling?
The twin images of hands in the air
euphoria and feet in the mud misery.
You are listening to St Etienne’s latest
single Method of Modern Love.
