The big idea behind Slicethepie is to enable artists to raise money directly from their fans to
professionally record and release an album, by turning every music fan into a record label.
Fans can be involved in scouting, breaking, investing in and influencing real artists. Investors
trade in and profit from the success of these artists. Meanwhile, artists who secure finance
pay Slicethepie.com a small royalty on album sales, but own copyright and publishing rights.
Slicethepie.com briefed Graphico to create an online application that would bring its vision
to life, branding, design, development and an ongoing marketing strategy to bring the
model to market. Central to the project was a portal which set out to transform the way
that unsigned artists and their music were brought to public attention. The site comprises
three core areas; unsigned artists load tracks to ‘The Scout Room’ to be reviewed by the
fan community. In ‘The Showcase’, they receive financial support from their fans — those
achieving £15,000 or more can launch their careers, and ‘contracts’ are issued to
investors, to be traded in ‘The Trading Exchange’ area.
As a strategic partner, Graphico brought this novel idea to life online, helping real artists
make real money.
