CBOSS in Afghanistan
A
new CDMA network operator—WaselTelecom—isproviding
mobile, fixed-wireless
and data services in the North of Afghanistan.
The Afghan telecommunications
market is highly competitive
and includes four GSM players
and one national fixed and CDMA
operator, AfghanTelecom.
WaselTelecom’s operation is driven
by the comprehensive, convergent IT
solution from CBOSS, based on the
postpaid billing and customer care
system CBOSSbcc and prepaid billing
system CBOSSprepaid. These
systems allow the operator to offer
its customers a much wider choice of
tariffs, successfully differentiating itself
from the competition.
Acting as sole supplier of the entire
IT infrastructure for WaselTelecom,
the CBOSS transnational corporation
performed the preliminary testing
of its products for compatibility
with the switching hardware from
Samsung used by Wasel. The flexibility
of the CBOSS industrial solution
and its open architecture allowed the
successful completion of the testing
within tight timeframes.
Using the CBOSS solution to provide
up-to-date services, WaselTelecom
is aiming to capture a considerable
share of the Afghan telecommunications
market. Internet access is going
to be one of the key competitive
advantages. In record time, Wasel is
planning to become a leader in the
mobile internet sector, offering customers
EVDO-based high-speed data
services enabled and accounted by
the CBOSSip Internet Platform.
WaselTelecom is to become the first
Afghan telecom operator to actively
promote internet self-care services.
For this purpose, the solution from
CBOSS includes the internet customer
service CBOSSics and web customer
care interface CBOSSwcc.
The CBOSSsms Short Message
Service Center in WaselTelecom is
equipped with gateways for SMS
conversion to ICQ, email and voice.
To offer even greater customer convenience,
the functionality of SMS
interconnectivity between different
network technologies is also available
in WaselTelecom.
The notification service CBOSSmissedCall,
included in the comprehensive
solution supplied, will allow
the carrier to boost its traffic by three
to five per cent. CBOSSsplitCharging
is also important for a developing
economy, allowing subscribers to
make collect calls or split charges in
equal proportions between the called
and calling parties. Similarly to
CBOSSmissedCall, the solution also
increases paid traffic.
WaselTelecom CEO Mohammad Gul
Kholmi said: “The modern market is
particularly challenging for mobile
operators. The convergent solution
from CBOSS enables us to deliver
exceptional quality of service and
guarantees continuous availability of
all network elements. It should also
be noted that the CBOSS solution is
the one that would allow us to offer
several completely new services to
our subscribers.”
WaselTelecom is an Afghan start-up
carrier licensed to provide CDMA
2000 1x communications services
in 22 northern districts of Afghanistan
in the first phase. The company
is headquartered in Mazari Sharif,
Balkh province.
