Following the sudden death of director anthony minghella in 2008,
Eno revives his olivier award-winning Madam Butterfly as a tribute
to this giant of our cultural life. Having won great acclaim for a
series of remarkable films, including his oscar-laden The English
Patient, minghella turned his creative genius to Puccini’s
heartbreaking masterpiece. With its sumptuous sets, stunning
costumes and breathtaking use of Far Eastern theatre traditions,
the Sunday telegraph described it as ‘the most beautiful show of
the year in operatic london’. carolyn choa directs this revival,
conducted by Eno music Director Edward Gardner. Judith Howarth
in the title role heads an outstanding cast which includes christine
rice and Bryan Hymel.
