THE INDEPENDENT PUBLISHERS’ADVISORY COUNCIL (IPAC) acts as the voice of the
independent publishers within PPA. IPAC provides a forum for independent
publishers to learn and share experiences.
THE PPA PARTWORKS GROUP continued its work to represent partwork
publishers by commissioning a further audit of the return process in randomly
selected wholesale houses. These audits have led to an important amendment
within the wholesale returns guidelines which aids all partwork publishers.

The 2007 Independent Publisher
Awards saw a record number of
entries and the eventual winners
faced tough competition. There

the current agenda of the smaller
publisher, these events have focused
on online developments.“Online
Magazines – Stepping up a gear”

whether magazine publishers could
justify investment in these areas
while delegates at“Secrets to
marketing your website”learnt
about new ways to drive traffic
to their websites.
WE ARE THE CHILDREN
Following the success of the Children
and media: the benefits of magazines
research last year,the Children’s
Publications Group is looking at ways
to demonstrate the effectiveness
of children’s magazines as an
advertising medium.
FIT FOR THE FUTURE
LOOKING FORWARD, the IPAC Committee aims to increase
the number of in house events and build on the success
of the Independent Publisher Seminar at Magazines &
Business Media 2008. The IPAC programme of events
will address the many challenges facing the independent
publisher today. The committee will also be working
to raise the profile of the annual Independent publisher
awards which demonstrate so clearly the creativity and
innovation of this part of the industry. In 2008 the
partworks sector will continue to work together to give
the sector a strong voice.
“All partwork publishers have worked hard
again this year to ensure that a united front
is presented to the wholesale, retail and
postal industries. With the help of the PPA
we have managed to fight our corner and
make some significant changes to industry
guidelines which will ensure that partworks
continue to thrive over the coming years.”
Tom Bath, marketing manager, GE Fabri, chairman,
