THE POWER OF 3
PPA Business Media held three
networking forums in 2007 under
the umbrella title“Power of 3.”
Focusing on print, online and F2F
media, the forums looked at the
recruitment, retention and training
of media sales staff, how business
media companies monetise their
online properties and how F2F
media includes online conferencing,
webinars and e-symposium
technology. The forums were free
to attend for members, and provided
some very useful insights into
different areas of the business
as well as giving delegates the
opportunity to network with
other members.

FIT FOR THE FUTURE
IN RESPONSE TO THE need to put a price on the sector, PPA
Business Media has commissioned GFK NOP to
research the business media and information industry
to see the rate of growth since it was last valued at £17bn
in 2005. At PPA’s annual conference in May, Incisive
Media chief executive (and chair of PPA’s Business
Media council) Tim Weller has said he believes the
figure could now be at around £25bn. Findings from the
new report are due to be published in late Autumn 07.
The results from the market sizing report will be used to
show that this is a sector to be taken very seriously – in
print, online and face-to-face (F2F).The Business Media
Council together with PPA will continue their inward
focus in 2008, organising networking lunches, events
and forums to motivate and educate teams within their
businesses.
The newly established F2F committee will continue to
meet in 2008 and discuss issues relating to conference
divisions within business media companies.
RISE OF THE SUPER EDITOR!
This conference, aimed at business
media editors, focused on the
editorial skills required in the
rapidly developing business
information environment. Speakers
looked at how editors maintain
quality and integrity in the multiplatform
world, and how roles will
be defined after major changes to
the profession in recent years.
The conference was free for PPA
members, covering issues including
blogging, change management and
search engine optimisation.
NETWORKING FOR SUCCESS
To understand the bigger picture
and help our members, PPA
Business Media held several
networking lunches with key
players from the industry in early
2007 to determine“hot topics”in
the sector. Issues such as sales and
editorial talent, organisational
structures/new business culture,
monetising online propositions
and making F2F media work were
raised, and activity in 2007 was
based around helping members
resolve these issues.
