PPA BUSINESS MEDIA is the resource for people working
within the business media and information industry.
One of the world’s most important media sectors, it is
estimated to be worth over £20bn in the UK. While
magazines are still a core part of most business media
companies, the focus has moved to other areas such as
online and face-to-face (F2F). As well as mainstream
publishing revenues, business media companies are
making money from their online properties by selling
licenses and subscriptions for the valuable data on their
websites, and enjoying success in their profitable
conference divisions.
To reflect these changes,PPA Business
Media (together with the Business
Media Council) revised its programme
of activity in 2007.The refocus looked
at engaging key players from other parts
of the industry by holding several
networking lunches.This allowed
participants to talk freely about issues
of importance,and their predictions for
the future of business media.Several
‘hot topic’forums were launched as a
result of these lunch discussions,to
investigate vital subjects as soon as
they arise and provide small events for
various groups in the business.The
hope is for this to continue steadily
throughout 2008.
“It is time for“business media UK”to
put on a new face, time to have a new
confidence, time to stand up and be
recognised properly…. by the City and our
investors, by the Government in the UK
and in Brussels and most of all by us,
the companies that drive this vital and
important sector of the UK economy.”
Tim Weller, chief executive, Incisive Media and chair
of PPA’s Business Media Council (at Magazines and
Business Media 2007).
