THE new WY-250 turning centre from Nakamura-Tome adds even more
capability to the company's twin-spindle concept. Available from sole UK
distributor Turning Technologies, part of the Engineering Technology
Group, the WY-250 will be launched in the UK at MACH 2008.
With two Super Mill Y-axis turrets giving 10kW of milling power
available on every tool station, the WY-250 machines complex parts in
one hit from bar, billet or blank. Offering capability required for highvolume
lights-out production, the WY-250 has the flexibility required
for varied small and medium batch manufacturing.
Two Super Mill Y-axis turrets can each hold up to 24 driven tools and
can accommodate the heat generated during heavy machining - with large
gears, rigid drives, a large diameter drive shaft and oil mist cooling. The
WY-250 has heavy duty box-way construction, hand scraped for micron
accuracy, with temperature control to all major machine elements.
Typically, the WY-250 can produce a complex aerospace component in
one hit from stainless bar combining the heavy milling of features such
as cross-bores and fine details such as oil ways, to the highest levels of
accuracy. With 10kW of power available on any tool and milling speeds
of up to 6000rev.min, the two turrets can work on either spindle
individually or simultaneously to achieve high rates of metal removal.
The collet size on the driven tooling is AR32 and the maximum face
cutter size is 80mm diameter. www.engtechgroup.com

XYZ Machine Tools
(CNC machine tools): Stand 5358
will present an up-to-the-minute picture of the UK’s leading supplier, by
volume, of CNC machine tools. The distributor will showcase XYZ’s new
Compact Turn 52 turning centre; TC 250 turning centre with live tooling;
Mini Mill 560 compact vertical machining centre; three models of VMC,
including the 1060 HS (high speed) model with the option of a
24,000rev/min spindle (12,000 rev/min as standard); the new ProtoTRAK
EMX eMill manual/CNC turret mill; two models of ProtoTRAK SMX
manual/CNC bed mill; and four models of ProTURN ELX and SLX
manual/CNC lathe, with three versions of the largest model, the ProTURN
SLX 555, featuring between centres distances up to 3m.
The ProtoTRAK control fitted to XYZ’s manual/CNC mills and lathes
retains the inherent simplicity of operation of manual machines while
providing CNC capability at DRO prices. Full-CNC machines are supplied
as standard with Siemens ShopMill and ShopTurn conversational controls.
Recent addition to the portfolio, the XYZ Compact Turn 52 turning
centre, typifies the company’s emphasis on ‘the smarter choice for
prototype and low volume production’. Equipped with the Siemens 810D
ShopTurn control and designed to occupy the minimum of floor space
(1700 by 1300mm), this new turning centre combines a 20hp
(15kW)/5000rev/min spindle with a 155mm chuck/52mm bar capacity
spindle and a maximum turned length of 280mm as well as a 12-station
VDI tool turret. www.xyzmachinetools.com
