We present a series of exhibitor ‘snapshots’
- for full details of their offerings
go to www.mwponline.com
Shear-Form
(sheet metal processing): Stand 4869
A number of new products will be exhibited and
demonstrated by Shear-Form Machine Tools, the Coventry
based sheet metal and plate working machinery supplier.
www.shear-form.co.uk
Star Micronics
(turning centres): Stands 5208, 5248
A triple-turret sliding-head lathe capable of dramatically
reducing cycle times for one-hit machining of complex
components up to 20mm diameter, will be the centrepiece
of the Star Micronics GB stand. www.stargb.net
SurTech
(abrasive finishing equipment):
Stand 4808
SurTech will be exhibiting its planetary finishing machine
for dealing with bent tubes and hollow sections, and its
multihead abrasive belt finisher. www.surtech.co.uk
Trumpf
(sheet metal processing): Stand 4730
Automation often delivers productivity - but often volume
manufacture is achieved at the expense of flexibility. The
Trumpf stand will emphasise that there is no need to
compromise. www.uk.trumpf.com
Wilkinson Star
(welding equipment) Stand 4897
Wilkinson Star Ltd, sole UK representatives for Cebora
welding products will be launching a new series of welding
automation systems. www.wilkinsonstar.com
A bandsaw and circular saw will be launched by KASTO at MACH alongside the
company's other sawing and storage equipment.
KASTO
(sawing machines): Stand 4366
KASTO cross is a new, heavy-duty, vertical
bandsaw for cutting billets, plates, square or
flat materials up to 1060 by 2060mm crosssection.
Users are likely to be in steel
distribution, tool and die manufacture, or in
steel mills. However, the CNC bandsaw is also
suitable for cross-cutting other ‘difficult’
materials such as titanium, Hastelloy and
Inconel.
The machine, available in four sizes, uses
tungsten carbide tipped or bi-metal blades of
41mm width. Semi-automatic and automatic
versions can be supplied with maximum cut
piece feed lengths of 600, 1500 or 3000mm.
An advantage of the KASTOcross design
over a horizontal bandsaw with the same
cutting range is its ability to saw material more
than twice as quickly. Capital investment is 25
to 30% lower and blade costs are reduced by up
to 70%.
The BasicControl CNC system is anything
but basic. Running under Windows, it stores
details of up to 98 jobs (piece length and
number combinations), the number counting
Schneeberger will be demonstrating its latest generations of Corvus broach grinding machine and the Norma tool and cutter grinder.
Schneeberger (tool and cutter grinding): Stand 5668
THE 5-axis Corvus broach grinding machine combines accuracy with power. Machine kinematics and software driven by customer input provide an efficient,
precision system for grinding flat, cylindrical or helical broaches. High accuracies are underpinned by rigid and robust construction based on a machine bed
made from advanced polymer concrete to provide stability and resistance to thermal expansion. With a 1200Nm workhead, it can accurately grind workpieces
with large dimensions or heavy weights. Wide doors facilitate crane access.
The direct drive spindle has a grinding capacity up to 34hp (26kW). Internal cooling ensures thermal stability even at high rates of material removal.
Electronic probing provides optimum positioning, and integrated measuring software for each tool type gives the user free determination of the measuring
cycle. Automatic dressing and profile grinding are based on the loader cycle.
Standard or profiled grinding wheels are according to DFX drawings, with specific profile grinding cycles for gear hobs as an option. Tailstocks or steady rests
are manual or automatic according to user requirement; tool supports for reamers, heavy cutter heads and disc shaped special tools are available.
Application specific tool holders, chucks and special workholding systems can be provided by Schneeberger. Tool clamping is manual or automatic; loading is
by robot, gantry loader, pallet stack or tool holder carousel.
The latest generation of Norma tool and cutter grinding machine on display is also available in a version for grinding micro tools. Right or left-handed cutting,
positive or negative helix, chamfers, bevelled tools, corner radii, ballnose, high performance drills, and a wide range of other tools can be ground using standard
grinding tools. Profile tools can be produced with minimal set-up and change-over times. www.schneeberger.ch

to the
desired total. After
entering the
required band speed and the material’s type
and cross-sectional size and shape, blade infeed
is adjusted automatically.
KASTO will introduce a facility for
economical cutting-to-length of medium to
small quantities by equipping its new
KASTOgripspeed 10 with a vice for pulling
stock through the machine rather than
pushing it, as with most automatic circular
saws. It can even be used for order-cutting
stock of mixed sizes and cross section if fitted
with a chain magazine instead of the usual
inclined magazine or bundle loader.
Having a cutting capacity of 102mm
diameter solid bar, or 80mm square, the
machine is able to saw high tensile steel and
superalloys, using tungsten carbide or cermettipped
blades. In one test, 28mm diameter
Nimonic 80A was cut in 11.5 seconds with a
Kanefusa 120-tooth blade running at
40m/min and feed per tooth of 0.035mm.
The touch-screen, Windows-based control
has a material library for fast, convenient
setting of all machine functions, with storage
for up to 500 material records and 200 jobs.
Urgent jobs can be promoted within the queue
at any time. Material usage and job duration
are calculated by the control, which also
optimises stock usage to keep remnant lengths
to a minimum.
