SIEMENS Automation and Drives has formulated a ‘menu’ of services which can be provided in
partnership with UK manufacturers to increase productivity and efficiency of machines and
machining cells. These services include: Manufacturing IT, Extended machine contracts, Machine
retrofits, and Increased productivity. Headlining at MACH 2008 is the Solution Line range of
controls and drives which provide scalable, networked and open automation solutions for an
extensive range of machine applications. Solution Line comprises the Sinumerik 840D sl and 802D
sl as drive-based CNC control, as well as the Sinumerik 840Di sl as a PC-based version. Latest
versions of JobShop, ShopMill and ShopTurn programming software will be on display. Siemens’
machine tools specialists will be on hand to demonstrate all aspects of operating and programming
for low, medium and high batch production. Siemens will also be exhibiting comprehensive
solutions including the TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) concept, industrial IT systems and
day-to-day services such as the repair of high speed spindles.
In addition to a specialised team of service engineers, Siemens can offer a full range of options
for machine and process upgrade. These range from machine optimisation through to retrofit
packages and complete turnkey solutions, all supported by the company’s accredited training
school in Manchester. www.siemens.co.uk/automation
Eight of the ten machines on the DMG (UK) stand at MACH 2008 will be new to the UK.
DMG(UK) (machining): Stand 5228
EIGHT of the ten machines on the DMG (UK)
stand at MACH 2008 are new to the UK, while
the latest, high speed linear drive, DMU 50 eVo
linear machining centre is featured on the Open
Mind stand (5556) for CADCAM to simultaneous
five-axis machining demonstrations via
hyperMILL software.
DMG's development programme has produced
machine tool guarding with up to 40% improved
visibility of the machining area through larger
scratch resistant, shatterproof windows. Flush
surfaces in reinforced plastic complement the
machine set off by DMG's ERGOline scratch
resistant brushed chrome and the ultra-modern
LIGHTline - a distinctive operational status
indicator that is visible across the entire upper
ridge of the machine.
The DMG ERGOline control comes with a 19-inch
screen that is flat and easy to clean with an
adjustable keyboard angle between 15 and 70
degrees. DMG SOFTkeys enable hot key
customisation of frequently used operational
sequences or screen selections and, in order to allow
individual levels of operator authorisation, DMG’s
SMARTkey with transponder enables allocation of
operational data, mode selector and security. An
integrated, adjustable, 'perch' seat is available as an
24 MWP march 2008
option that can be fitted
to the control console.
Machining centres
under power will
include the DMU 40
monoBLOCK, standard
five-axis VMC with up to 200%
greater dynamics in the rotary axis; the DMC 60 U
duoBLOCK five-axis twin pallet VMC; DMC 55H
duoBLOCK, a compact horizontal spindle machine;
and the latest HSC 55V Linear, an 80m/min rapid
traverse VMC.
Also on show will be the DMC 635V eco VMC
and the Ultrasonic 20 linear that provides a solution
to hard metal machining by combining hard milling
and ultrasonic machining in a single cycle. This
machine provides four or five axis positioning with
linear drives in the main three axes.
Turning machines under power will include the
fifth generation CTX lathe, giving 25%
performance improvement. The CTX beta 1250
TC with subspindle, a turning-milling spindle and
toolchanger, a MSL 42-6 multislide lathe, able to
provide simultaneous cutting and the NEF 400,
entry level lathe and CTX 310 eco with counter
spindle and Y-axis will all be under power.
