production world
celebrating excellence in production engineering
MWP AWARDS 2008
If you’re at the NEC on the Tuesday of MACH week you can mix
business with pleasure. Firmly established alongside MACH is
another great event in the engineering calendar - the MWP Awards,
devised 25 years ago as a way of recognising outstanding achievement
in production engineering.
The Awards culminate on Tuesday 22nd April 2008 at the Hilton
Birmingham Metropole Hotel, by the NEC. The winners will be
those who most impress the judges - a twelve-strong panel of top
production engineers, independent editors and consultants, and
leading academics working alongside the manufacturing sector. We
can’t predict who the winners are going to be - but we can promise
that the evening will maintain the consistently high standard set by
all our previous events - and that you, your clients and colleagues
will have a great night out.

FRANKIE BOYLE
A favourite on the comedy circuit, and now
established with a wider television-watching
public as an ever-present panellist on BBC2’s Mock
the Week, Glaswegian Frankie Boyle’s brand of
pithy, observational standup pulls no punches and
has seen him described as ‘laid back, laconic, sharp
as the jaggiest jaggy bit of a thistle’ (Sunday Mail).
Frankie first grabbed attention by winning the
Daily Telegraph Open Mic competition.
Unashamedly Scottish, his highly original, well-honed and intelligent
material, punctuated with topical gags embodies ‘the pseudo-innocence
and jovial outrage of Connolly shackled to a straightforward lack of
pretentiousness’ (Scotland on Sunday). He is a regular guest on (and
writer for) 8 out of 10 Cats and has appeared on They Think it’s All Over.
As well as his work in front of camera, Frankie is developing new projects
for Channel 4 TV and is a regular guest on Radio 4 panel shows.
JASON MANFORD
JASON Manford, our compere for the evening, started
his career as a lowly pot collector at Manchester’s
longest running comedy club, The Buzz. Five weeks
later he won the North West Comedian of the Year
Award (previous winners were Peter Kaye - who
describes Jason as ‘very, very funny’ and Johnny Vegas).
He has performed regularly at the country’s top
comedy clubs including The Comedy store and Jongleurs and is well
known for his ‘Urban Legends’ show - a trawl through those apocryphal
myths that people share around the camp fire: Was Jamie Lee Curtis
born a man? Is Coca-Cola the reason Santa wears red? Jason can be seen
in his own show on E4, is a team captain on 8 Out of 10 Cats and appears
in Shameless. He also presents XFM Manchester's breakfast radio slot.
