Robust Powerchain Cable for
Higher Operating Temperatures
For many years Lapp Group have lead the way
in cables for positive guidance systems, our
extensive range of Olflex ® FD cables have
been used in numerous applications where
flexibility and durability are paramount.
In response to our customer’s ever more
demanding new applications, Lapp has recently
introduced a new robust range of cables to
complement our existing product line-up. The new
Olflex ® FD Robust control and connection cables
are specifically designed for cable chain
applications with small bending radii and operate
at temperatures up to +105°C. Conventional PVC
and PUR sheathed cables can become brittle and
loose their flexibility at temperatures over +80°C.
The Olflex ® FD Robust range maintains its
flexibility even at temperatures over +100°C and
at high humidity.
This cable is therefore suitable for use in
machine and plant construction and guarantees the
operation of essential industrial processes at high
temperatures. In addition, the increased chemical
resistance permits use in the food-processing
industry, medical equipment, car wash systems and
milling machines operating with natural oils.
The specially developed insulation and sheath
combination of TPE P 4/11 makes Olflex ® FD
Robust outstandingly resistant against natural oil,
softeners, cooling and liquid agents as well as acid,
caustic soda and solvents (for example alcohol and
glycol) at room temperatures, and has a
considerably longer service life than PVC or PUR
sheathed cables. This prevents expensive downtime
and assures reliable operation of machinery and
equipment where the cable is installed. P 4/11 is
weatherproof and UV resistant, therefore Olflex ®
FD Robust is suitable for outdoor use in
temperatures down to -40°C.
A copper braided screened version is also
available, Olflex ® FD Robust C, for protection
against electrical interference.

To complement the control and connection
cables, a new range of Servo Drive cables has
also been added to our range. These are the
Olflex ® ROBUST FD 756 C for motor supply and
the Olflex ® ROBUST FD 776 C encoder cable.
The Olflex ® ROBUST FD 756 C cable is shielded,
highly flexible, oil resistant supply cable for servo
motors, especially for use in power chains,
automatic manipulators and in permanently
moving machine parts. For use in dry, damp, wet
locations, either inside or outdoors.
Olflex ® ROBUST FD 756 C cable is increased
bio-oil and water resistant and at room temperature
generally resistant against diluted acids and
caustics solutions, certain oils, greases and waxes.
The special TPE outer sheath is resistant against
ordinary mechanical abuse, extraordinary
hydrolysis resistance, when in contact with cold,
warm or hot water or water based fluids.
Therefore this cable is predestinated for use in
metal processing machine tools using water based
fluids and bio degradable oils. In or on devices,
apparatus, machines for farming, food processing,
beverage, pharmaceuticals, body care industry,
composting and sewage plants. In textile fibre
production sides, in areas where a permanent
cleaning procedure is obligatory such as use of
steam cleaners, pressure washers etc.
The intended use of the core pairs is for
signalling and controlling purposes, for example
thermocouple and/or brake. In order to avoid any
interference of the signals the pairs are double
screened, i.e. an aluminium cladded foil having a
copper braiding on top with supplementary drain
wire. Cables with two pairs are each separate
sheathed. The outside screen is a whole protection
against electrical interference.
The Olflex ® ROBUST FD 776 C has the same
mechanical and chemical properties as the Olflex ®
ROBUST FD 756 C, but is designed as a flexible
feedback/sensor cable for resolved and shaft
encoder for the control of servomotors.
Of course, supplying the cable is sometimes
only a small part of the installation, so Lapp
offer a full range of circular connectors
designed especially with Servo Drives in mind.
The Epic ® Circon M23 signal connectors are
offered in coupler, connector, and panel mount
configurations that satisfy simple cable-to-cable
and cable-to-machine requirements. They are ideal
for control signal transmission and servo-drive
encoder feedback applications in the plastics,
printing, analytical instrument, robotic, and
machine tool industries, and any other industrial
or commercial application where a compact,
rugged connector is required.
M23 Connectors are available in seven housing
arrangements that can accommodate three
different keying positions. Inserts are offered in a
choice of seven contact configurations for mounting
male or female, crimp or solder contacts. Common
to all arrangements are a rugged nickel-plated zinc

body, plastic contact insulation body and gold
plated electrical contacts. Cable mounted
arrangements also include an integral EMC shield
ring and a built in Skintop ® gland.
They are offered with insert configurations for
6, 7, 8+1, 9, 12, 16, and 17 crimp or solder contacts
in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise
orientation. Used in combination, they connect one
cable with another (cable coupler) or a cable to
fixed wiring in a control enclosure or on a machine,
instrument, or motor.
A colour coding system provides positive
identification and visual differentiation in multiple
connector installations whilst colour coded keying
rings insure correct mating selection in
applications where several connectors are mounted
in the same location.
The Epic ® Circon LS1 power connectors have a
standard Epic ® M23 threaded connection housing
and are offered in male coupler, female connector,
and male inlet configurations that satisfy simple
cable-to-cable and cable-to-machine requirements.
They are ideal for power transmission and servo
drive applications in the plastics, printing,
analytical instrument, robotic, machine tool
industries, and any other industrial or commercial
application where a compact connector with high
voltage and current capability is required.
LS1 connectors are available in five housing
arrangements and two contact configurations.
Common to all arrangements are a rugged nickelplated
zinc body, plastic contact insulation body
and gold plated electrical contacts. Like the M23
connectors, cable mounted arrangements also
include an integral EMC shield ring and the highly
regarded Skintop ® gland.
For multiple connector installations, colour
marking is used to provide positive identification
and visual differentiation.
