Palace of Dreams for a
first class experience
By Julie van Wyk

If you enjoy excellent service, stunning décor, and
an endless variety of leisure and entertainment
choices, then Emperors Palace is the only place to
be. The Palace of Dreams is undergoing a R100-million
redevelopment in order to offer guests more dining
and entertainment options than ever before.
This iconic tourism resort is conveniently located
just minutes away from South Africa’s gateway, the
OR Tambo International Airport. Although the casino
resort comfortably hosts guests arriving from every
corner of the globe, the redevelopment was planned
to meet increasing hotel and leisure demands from
both international and South African markets.
With a galaxy of entertainment and leisure activities
now all under one roof, the new Emporium is set to
become Gauteng’s premier family entertainment venue.
One of the highlights is the opening of a spectacular
state-of-the-art movie theatre experience by Nu Metro,
which houses one of the largest cinemas on the African
continent, seating more than 500 people. There will be
six movie theatres, including two ultra-modern digital
cinemas, as well as a permanent 3D cinema. A family
movie theatre will utilise a combination of beanbag
and top-end seating for a fun-filled informal viewing
experience, while another screen will feature plush
seating and private bar facilities.
The extensive redevelopment project has been
designed to transform the Emporium into a destination
entertainment venue, catering extensively for families
and complementing the four hotels, gaming facilities
and convention business of the resort.
The magnificent replica statue of David, standing
an impressive 5,7 metres high, beneath the ever-blue
sky will now oversee a feast of fine restaurants and
new entertainment facilities – some old favourites
and many new and exciting additions. Highlights
include Platia, a traditional Greek taverna, the popular
Portuguese eatery Braza, the exotic Taste of Mumbai
Indian restaurant, Italian Pizzeria Col’Cacchio, Tribes
famous African steakhouse, the new Gold Rush Spur
family restaurant, Ocean Basket seafood restaurant,
and a host of famous fast-food brands that together
totally showcase the tastes of the world. We also have
the new trendy concept News Café franchise, a brand
new sports bar called Sportsville, and the amazing new
entertainment and event venue, 64 @ The Palace.
