UKUTULA...
a family-run project dedicated
to education and research
Situated approximately 20 km north of Brits in
the North West province is “Ukutula”, a lion
centre dedicated to education, research and
conservation. “Ukutula” means “place of quiet” and is
the ideal setting for game and guests alike.
Ukutula is a family-run project which concentrates
on education and research. Owners Willi and Gillian
Jacobs have, over the past four years, managed
to reform the farm from a hunting venue to the
establishment it is today.
Ukutula says it has much to offer which includes:
• Daily tours of the lion enclosures and personal inter-
action with cubs. Bottle feeding and cuddling the
cubs will not leave your emotions untouched.
• Tasty refreshments are served prior to or after the
tour.
• A tour can be supplemented by a game view drive
on quad bikes, safari vehicle or on horseback.
• The farm is home to several antelope species,
giraffe, zebra, ostriches and warthogs.
• Should one decide to overnight, attractive thatched
bungalows are available in various sizes.
• Families are welcome to make use of the two
swimming pools and the jacuzzi.

WALKING WITH LIONS LIO
• Booking for meals is essential. Alternatively, a fully
equipped boma is available for a family braai or get-
together.
• Neat log dormitories are available to host school
groups for adventure or leadership camps. Qualified
facilitators keep scholars entertained for hours with
activities such as abseiling, swimming, archery, game
drives, nature hikes, cub interaction and an evening
spent around a fire at the bush camp.
• An air-conditioned, fully equipped conference room
can be utilised by corporate groups for conferences,
and teambuilding is also an option.
• End the day with an excellent meal prepared by an
”in-house” chef at the outdoor boma. The roar of
lions breaks the silence at sunset.
An international volunteer programme offers animal
lovers from all over the world the novel opportunity to
share in the joy and excitement of caring for the lions.
From feeding and caring for the cubs, to working in
the enclosures where the adult lions are makes for a
holiday that will never be forgotten and photographs
that will be treasured.
