ACF trio make the Duke of
Westminster Award final cut

Three Army Cadets have won places on
a three-week adventure to South Africa as
finalists of the Duke of Westminster Award.
Cadet RSM Amy Challinor of Guernsey
Detachment, Dorset ACF, Cadet CSM Nikki
Morgan of Humberside and South Yorkshire
ACF and Cadet CSM Sarah Nicholls of Devon
ACF will join seven teenagers from the other
Cadet Forces on the expedition in the summer.
CSM Morgan finished in the top five and now
stands a chance of winning the coveted Duke of
Westminster Award for the most outstanding
cadet, which will be announced at an award
ceremony in London on 24 June.
Ten cadets were shortlisted for the award
from 215 applicants after taking part in a
36-hour selection process hosted by the Cadet
Vocational Qualification Organisation. To be in

standard has been extremely high,” said Edward
Woods, Chief Executive of CVQO.
In South Africa the cadets will take part in
an environmental awareness course and a
cultural project working with and teaching
children who have been orphaned by AIDS.

Margaret is an emergency planner by day
and admits that Cadets allows her to forget
about the worries of her stressful job.
“From being the Commandant to sorting
out the cadets’ rations for their next exercise,
I turn my hand to whatever needs doing!”
