Welcome to
Birmingham -
have a nice Day!

Brum in the sixties, some say “Those were the days”
A superior city in so many ways
‘Cause the streets were paved with faggots and ‘pays’
Welcome to Birmingham — have a nice day.
Enoch Powell came and gave us ‘Rivers of Blood’
He was bad, he was ugly and he wasn’t that good
‘Cause we were more tolerant in our neighbourhood
Welcome to Birmingham — have a nice day.
Our city was shaken in seventy four
By evil men trying to settle a score
Perhaps a sign of futures we’d all have to endure?
Welcome to Birmingham — have a nice day.
In came the eighties with ole’ Maggie Thatcher
Gave us inflation, unemployment and the kiddie’s milk snatcher
Though some people tried, they just couldn’t dispatch her
Welcome to Birmingham — have a nice day.
The nineties were grey, then ‘TB’ came along
He tried to put right all the things that were wrong
With a big cheesy grin and a nice Brit Pop song
Welcome to Birmingham — have a nice day.
Now the ‘noughties’ are nice, we’ve been going through changes
Our city’s been growing like Alpine mountain ranges
With that Selfridges building — the epitome of what strange is
Welcome to Birmingham — have a nice day.
We know we’re not perfect, but we’re having a go
At least we’ve made progress, even if it is slow
Because every great oak takes a long time to grow
Welcome to Birmingham – have a nice day.
Some say that that we’re thick and we’re not very bright
Some say that our accent is vulgar and trite
Well we say those people are just talking … rubbish!
Welcome to Birmingham — have a nice day.
