The Holte Pub
Villa fans are once again able to
raise a glass to their heroes in
the club’s traditional watering
hole, which has stood derelict
for two decades. The Holte
pub, one of the Villa’s most famous
landmarks, has been dramatically restored
to its former glory. The imposing Victorian
building, which dominates the corner of
Trinity Road and Witton Lane, is open to
the public throughout the week. There’s
a wide selection of beers to suit all tastes
as well as a contemporary menu at
reasonable prices, including Sunday lunch
and an excellent weekday lunchtime menu.
The Holte, officially re-opened for Villa’s
pre-season friendly against Inter Milan
last August, has proved extremely popular
already. Access on match days is limited,
but invitations are extended to season
ticket holders on a random basis so they
can enjoy a pre-match drink in one of the
superbly restored lounges, function rooms
or on the terrace that overlooks the Holte
End. Former Villa favourite Ian Taylor
is among those who have sampled The
Holte’s special atmosphere, popping in for
a drink on numerous occasions. Needless
to say, there is always a huge demand for
autographs from the midfield legend, who
signs his name across his column in the
club’s official programme, the Villa News
& Record.
A Villa spokesman said: “The Holte has
been an iconic part of the Villa experience
since the club first arrived on the site
behind it. Sadly, the pub’s limited capacity
means that it cannot account for all fans on
match days, but our hope is that it adds to
the feeling of heritage and history for Villa
supporters and the local community.”
The Holte, originally a hotel, dates back
to the mid-1860s, when it became the
