643 ARMSTRONG INTEGRATED SYSTEMS
Armstrong Integrated Systems has published a concise energy saving guide which
helps engineers to drive down costs when they refurbish or upgrade ageing systems.
The free eight-page booklet has been written by engineers from Armstrong’s after-sales
team and runs through the key energy saving opportunities presented by today’s
technology. To match the opportunity to the cash
available for the project, the guide looks at a number of
different fixes with varying paybacks. Each scenario is
outlined in detail, suggesting the types of existing system
it might be suitable for and explaining what would be
involved in terms of pipe changes. The results are clearly
stated, with pump curves and other charts for future
clarification, and an estimated saving is given based on
an example duty. The guide can be downloaded from
the website listed below.

647 JONES OF OSWESTRY
Limited widths for tree pits in external landscaping
to Foss Islands retail park has been solved using
adapted Arborslot recessed tree surrounds from
Jones of Oswestry. Dave Wilson, project
landscape architect for Planit, said: “We had a
maximum width of 1.5m for tree planting so we
used a narrower, elongated Arborslot surround.
This allowed us to plant in trenches while also
getting sufficient volume of soil under to sustain a
robust tree system.” Additional underbracing was
engineered into the ‘stretched’ Arborslot to provide
sufficient rigidity through the slightly longer span of
the unit to withstand vehicle overrun. Integral
bollards protect the trees themselves from impact.
