372 LESSONS IN NATURA PLUS
Fibre cement cladding panels from Marley Eternit have helped to
provide a practical, durable and economic design solution to the City
Academy in Reading. Varied lengths and widths of Marley Eternit’s
Anthracite Natura Plus through-coloured panels clad the exterior and
upper levels of three rectangular administration blocks at the John
Madejski Academy. Natura Plus was also used to clad the academy’s
heart, an unheated ETFE covered street which links the administration
blocks at ground and first floor levels with four distinctive wedgeshaped
learning clusters. The subtle textural quality of the panels
have created a pleasing, yet tough and practical cladding solution.
371 RESIN FLOORING FOR NEW
TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE
The new five-storey Construction and Engineering Block at the
College of North West London benefits from a durable resin
floor system laid in light grey by Ryebrook Resins. Ryebrook
laid its Ryetech Plus slip-resistant epoxy floor coating to all
areas including workshops, corridors and stairs. Demonstrating
the flexibility of the resin, Ryebrook also included aesthetically
high impact flooring graphics in polyurethane Ryedur, including
zebra crossing stripes, yellow cross-hatch junctions and a
double red route lining along main corridors.
374 KEEPING LEISURE CLEAN
Frontrunner entrance flooring is fronting a new £15m leisure
centre at North Ashfield. A priority for Ashfield Council has
been the importance of achieving the highest standards of
cleanliness by ensuring that external shoe dirt and wind
blown dust is prevented from entering the building. Working
with design and build contractor Alfred McAlpine/Carillion,
this has been solved by using Plastic Extruders’ high
performance Frontrunner system within automatic sliding
double entrance doors. Frontrunner Plus matting is
manufactured with integral absorbent insets within a heel-proof vinyl grid. This combination will scrape, clean
and dry shoes while any dirt remaining falls through the grid and does not inhibit wheelchairs users.
375 TAPPING INTO RESOURCES
Arrow Valves has launched a hose union tap which can be
recessed into any thickness of wall. The Conceal-A-Tap fits flush
with the wall when closed making it not only vandal-proof but
also reducing the risk of injury. It is particularly suitable for use
in school playgrounds, sports fields, public buildings and
gardens. The design, which is UK Water Regulations approved,
enables the unit to be easily installed inside the thermal
envelope of the building thereby minimising the risk of freezing.
The Conceal-A-Tap is supplied with a unique key which enables
it to be accessed and extended out of the wall. The same key is
also used to turn the tap on and off. The rotating telescopic
assembly permits a 15mm hose to exit in any direction.

376 MODERN DAY DOORS
Leaderflush Shapland has supplied 247
doorsets from its Designer and Plasform WR
ranges, with fire ratings of FD30, FD60 and nonrated,
to the new Donaldson’s school in West
Lothian. The Designer range doorsets were veneer
faced in crown cut American white oak and
laminate faced in a variety of wood grain effects
and colours. The Plasform WR doorsets were the
obvious choice for the swimming pool and other
wet areas as they have been specifically
developed to prevent moisture ingress. Due to the
radiused vertical edges of the door leaves and all
frame edges, together with the postforming of
facings around them, Plasform WR doorsets are
easy to clean and low maintenance. Both doorsets
have the antimicrobial additive, Hygienilac,
added as standard.
