Wood Energy3, part owned by RES Group4,
has announced it is the sole UK supplier of the
Austrian-manufactured Hargassner biomass
boiler, unveiled at the Ignition ‘09 exhibition
earlier this year. Suited to schools, community
centres and small district heating schemes, the
boilers will initially be sold in the 70 to 100kW
range with plans to extend this in the future. All
the boilers come with fully automatic ignition,
automatic heat exchanger cleaning systems,
wood chip and pellet operation, ash extraction
and a user-friendly interface.

BEST SCOTS SCHOOL
A joint campus shared by Niddrie Mill and St
Frances Primary School has been acclaimed as
‘the best new mainstream school building in
Scotland’. Designed by Elder and Cannon
Architects, the school uses aluminium glazing
systems from Technal. Large top hung picture
windows from Technal’s high performance
FXi65 casement range, and Visible Grid and
Tame Horizontale curtain walling successfully
contrast with the red brick cladding. More than
100 configurations of glazed screens were
also specified using different combinations of
window and door frames and panel sizes.

360 DELTA DELIVERS FOR LEICESTER
GRAMMAR SCHOOL
BG Controls has provided full integration and electrical installation of the
Building Management System (BMS) at Leicester Grammar School. The
building controllers were provided by Delta Controls, developer of BACnet
automation systems. The integration of BACnet technology to the building’s
windows and natural vent systems has enabled sustainable ventilation to the
school. The windows and natural vents are connected to a energy-efficient
underfloor heating system via BACnet while a Delta ORCAweb server
provides a web-based front end to connect the automated controllers to the Local Area Network (LAN). Staff can
connect to these pages, view the current status of the BMS and make modifications where needed.
363 PRI GOES TO SCHOOL IN N. IRELAND
PRI has provided metering and data services for NIE Energy’s (NIEE) ‘Switched on
Schools’ initiative – a project that has seen the installation of photovoltaic solar panels
to convert sunlight into electricity and renewable energy streetlights in 40 educational
establishments across rural Northern Ireland – by supplying the energy data services
for remote collection, analysis and billing from the Spring XP and GSM top hat meter
in each school involved. Sales and marketing manager, Geoff Chapman, said: “Our
meter and energy data service solution records the amount of energy used in each
school and provides historical data for trend analysis. Significantly, this information is
relayed to a central point for monitoring and interpretation.”
LEARNING TO FLOOR THE ECO WAY WITH

Primrose Hill Primary School in Salford has benefited from
