created the Barcelona Olympics opening ceremony, makes its ENO
debut with a production of this intensely dark comic masterpiece by
György Ligeti. With outrageous wit, wildly virtuosic vocal writing and
astonishing filmic effects, La Fura dels Baus’s Le Grand Macabre is a
spectacular surrealist farce set in a fantasy world that laughs in the face
of modern life and points to the moral: eat, drink and make love,
for who knows when the world might end. La Fura dels Baus recently
produced one of the most unforgettable Ring Cycles of the last 30 years,
to enormous critical acclaim and sold-out audiences.
