Sir Charles Mackerras
A FIENDISHLY GOOD ROLE
‘I can’t wait to get my teeth stuck into
this role again — quite simply, it’s a
gift. Primarily it is the attraction of the
astonishing vocal writing, with its
haunting melismas and extraordinary
word painting. Coming a very close
second is the rather guilty pleasure
to be had from playing such a
thoroughly bad and corrupting man!’
Lyric tenor Timothy Robinson
on reprising the role of Peter Quint
‘As Quint, Timothy Robinson gives his
finest performance to date’

SIR CHARLES MACKERRAS CONDUCTS
No opera company in the world has a
longer association with Benjamin
Britten than ENO, and no living
conductor has a longer association
with the composer than former ENO
Music Director Sir Charles Mackerras.
He worked closely with Britten in the
1950s, sharing the podium with him for
performances of The Turn of the Screw,
and conducting its 1959 television
premiere. Still unrivalled as a Britten
interpreter, Sir Charles returns to ENO
to conduct this first revival of David
McVicar’s production.
