Getting hitched in
the Seychelles
With its picture-perfect islands,
tropical climate and abundance
of high-end hotels and resorts
off ering wedding packages, the
Seychelles makes a perfect choice
for a wedding – not to mention the
honeymoon, too.
But tying the knot in the
Seychelles does involve a bit
of planning and preparation.
The Civil Status Offi ce advises
planning your nuptials at least
two months in advance, so let
your clients know the following:
● You must notify the registrar of
the date at least 11 days before
● You’ll also need to arrive in the
country two days before the
ceremony
● Church weddings are not legally
recognised without fi rst having
a civil ceremony
● Weddings can take place
outside the Civil Status Offi ce
with the permission of the
registrar. Costs vary according
to the location
● Couples will also need
to provide a range of
documentation depending
on their circumstances.
These include:
● A birth certifi cate or certifi ed
copy
● A death certifi cate in the case
of widows and widowers
● A decree absolute for divorcees
● Copies of the fi rst two pages of
the bride and groom’s passports
● Legal proof of any name
changes
● A document to show that there
is no impediment or lawful
hindrance to the intended
marriage, or failing that an
affi davit must be signed in
the Seychelles.
