New team at Delcam
DELCAM has announced a new management
team for its UK business. All are long-serving
Delcam employees - between them, they have a
total of over 75 years’ experience in the company.
The changes follow the recent promotions of
Clive Martell to Operations Director and Chris
Edwards to European Divisional Director within
the main Delcam company.
Coincident with appointment of the new
management team, the Delcam UK operation
is being relocated into a larger area within the
company’s Birmingham headquarters. The
expansion will affect all parts of the UK
business. It will include further growth in the
Tooling Services Division - the in-house
production facility that makes Delcam the
only CAM developer that uses its own
software for real manufacturing projects. The
number of training rooms will be increased to
handle the larger demand for training from
the growing number of UK customers. On
On-line interactive machine tool selector from Hardinge
HARDINGE has launched a new global initiative aimed at
helping precision manufacturers manufacturers identify the
optimum machine tool solution. Hardinge
Spectrum is designed to make it easier for
manufacturers to identify and then select the
optimum Hardinge machine tool solution
based on machine tool capability,
functionality and price.
Says David Andrew, UK Sales & Marketing
Director: ‘Our research within the machine
tool users revealed that manufacturers
frequently find themselves between a rock
and a hard place when in the market for a new
machine tool. On one hand they are worried
that they are being led, by some machine tool
manufacturers, into buying high-specification
machines that way exceed their
manufacturing requirements. Whilst on the
other hand they are equally anxious not to be
directed to machines that will often struggle
to meet the performance requirements they
demand. Our Hardinge Spectrum initiative
puts the end-user back in control.’
The solution entails the use of a newly created, interactive
website. When manufacturers visit it they can, by selecting
specific technology and commercial parameters, narrow
down the choice of Hardinge machine tools that are best-
completion of the relocation, Delcam will
undertake a recruiting drive to expand the
sales, support and training teams, and to add
new apprentices into Tooling Services.
‘These changes come at an exciting time for
Delcam in the UK,’ explains Creron. ‘We have
expanded the range of software that we offer
following the acquisition of the FeatureCAM
and PartMaker ranges. As a result, we can
offer a CAM system for virtually any machine
tool a company might have. At the same time,
we have diversified outside our traditional
toolmaking market and are now being
successful in a much wider range of industries.
The aerospace industry, in particular, has
produced rapid growth. We are confident that
this will continue as manufacturers in the
sector face constant demands for greater
productivity and higher quality.
‘The rapid expansion of our international
business in recent years has overshadowed the
suited to meet their machining needs and requirements. These
parameters, as well as identifying the required machine tool
technology - turning, milling or grinding -
focus on the machine tool capabilities and
functionalities as well as price, and include:
■ Type of material being machined
■ Type of component being machined -
simple through to complex
■ Part accuracies required
■ Surface finish requirements
■ Batch quantities/size
Continues David Andrew: ‘The search
criteria entered by the customer enable the
best-fit Hardinge machine tools to be
identified from across our Standard,
Performance and High-Performance ranges.
This means that the customer is controlling
the machine tool selection and decisionmaking
process...which is how it should be.’
The power of the product selector element of
the website means that it’s not just standard
specification machines that are highlighted
from a customer search. Depending on the
criteria selected - standard machines with optional extras will
also be highlighted (where these options help to increase the
machine’s capabilities and therefore match the customer’s
requirements). www.hardingespectrum.co.uk
