barfeed and automated parts handling to reduce cycle
times. On the same stand was the new Integrex i-150 turnmill
centre with B-axis positioning and 12,000revs/min,
7.5kW tool spindle for producing small, complex
components in as few operations as possible. Maximum
machining diameter is 585mm while bar capacity is 65mm.
The Colchester-Tornado TT6 has eight axes, twin 12station
turrets, two identical 15 kW integrated spindle units
and a totally redesigned 3 tonne heavy duty bed casting, the
new generation TT6 turn-mill centre is targeted at those
performing high performance turning and Y-axis milling
operations. The patented Index SpeedLine C-type turn-mill
centre from Geo Kingsbury is designed to increase the
resonant frequency (RF) of the machine above, it claims,
that of all other turning machines on the market,
including existing models in its own range.
Single hit cycles from an 8" chuck carried on 25kW,
built-in main and opposed spindles, are featured on the
new 8-axis Hyundai-Kia SKT 200TTSY turn-mill centre
from Dugard. On the same stand, the Dugard Eagle NL
200Y turn-mill centre has the specification to perform
heavy duty cycles including off-centre machining due to
the rigidity of the 12-station turret arrangement that
provides ±55mm Y-axis travel and rapids of 10m/min.

such as the WY-250, which features two Y-axis turrets
giving 10kW of milling power available on every tool
station to allow productive machining of complex parts in
one hit from bar, billet or blank. On the same stand the
Nakamura-Tome Super NTY3 turn-mill centre is a twinspindle,
three-turret machine with a Y-axis on each turret.
Sliding scale
The ever-increasing popularity of sliding head automatic
lathes meant a host of new models were on display at
MACH, such as the Tornos Micro 7, which guarantees
precision of ±0.002mm when manufacturing turned parts
up to 7mm diameter. Over on the Citizen, stand the latest
Type VII version of the company’s most successful CNC
sliding head lathe, the 7-axis up to 21 tool A20, incorporates
a new X-2 axis on the back spindle and back toolpost that
further improves machining flexibility enabling
simultaneous cutting with two tools on the front and
reverse ends of a component. The new Citizen A32 CNC
heavy duty sliding head lathe takes the philosophy of the
A20 into the larger material size of 32mm diameter,
enabling parts up to 320 mm long to be machined in a
single chucking. Citizen sold a total of 20 machines from
its range at MACH, worth in excess of £2 million.
Elsewhere, the new ECAS-20T 12-axis CNC sliding head
lathe from Star Micronics is capable of reducing cycle
times for one-hit machining of complex components up to
20mm diameter as it features three independent turrets
deploying three tools in cut simultaneously. Star made sales
worth over £1 million at the show.
