MACH reviews
Mills makes the headlines
WITH eighteen Doosan machine tools sold
from its stand over the five days (order value
over £2m), Mills felt MACH enabled it to
enhance its status as one of the most
successful machine tool companies in the
UK. Said managing director Mike Jenkins:
‘We had a great MACH Show. The
phenomenal interest shown amongst
precision manufacturers for the latest Doosan
machine tool technology meant that we were
rushed off our feet and, over the five days,
we registered well over 1600 visitors on our
Stand.’ Eleven orders came from companies
completely new to Mills. www.millscnc.co.uk

Mori Seiki productivity wins orders
COMPANIES visiting the Mori Seiki stand at
MACH clearly recognised the advantages of
choosing its equipment, placing orders
valued at £3.8 million at the show. The new
customers ranged from small subcontractors
to blue chip multi-nationals, many of whom
were ordering additional machines based on
the productivity and profitability achieved
from previous investments in Mori Seiki.
One customer reported that his Mori Seiki
NT, which was only installed in March, was
already generating profits of £300 per hour.

AFTER taking nearly 100 very positive enquiries on its stand at MACH, Mazak Lasers is ready to commit to an even larger stand at the next event in 2010.
Area sales manager Tim Aldous, said: ‘We have been extremely impressed with both the volume and quality of the visitors. The number of enquiries we have
dealt with increased significantly compared to the last MACH exhibition and we have certainly seen more decision makers on the stand.’ Visitor attractions
included the only laser machine at the show able to carry out hole tapping operations - the Mazak Hyper Turbo-X 510 laser. www.mazaklaser.co.uk
TPS Fronius plays it safe
THE TPS Fronius stand was designed to
facilitate the movement of spectators and
allow easy access to all the equipment on
display. For example an ABB robot used in
conjunction with a TPS 5000 CMT was
housed within a purpose-built safety screen,
manufactured by TPS ‘customers-ineducation’
Kilmarnock College. ‘This
illustrated a recent customer installation
and pleasingly demonstrated the very
successful use of the CMT machine with the
robot’ said automation manager Ross
McCrorie.

New sliding-head converts
IN the first two days of MACH 2008, orders
totalling £500,000 for sliding-headstock
CNC lathes were taken by Star Micronics GB
and by the end of the show, the figure was in
excess of £1 million. Managing director, Bob
Hunt, commented that it made the
company’s investment in the show wholly
justifiable. In addition, he said that the high
quality of some of the enquiries taken on the
stand makes him very optimistic that the
final tally of orders as a result of Star’s
participation at MACH will increase
substantially.

Miyano makes its mark
MACRO CNC used MACH to relaunch as
Miyano UK - and marked the occasion with
the sale of a Miyano ABX64-TH3 turning
centre on day two of the event, to Cork-based
Reliance Precision. The sale of the 10-axis
ABX64-TH3 to the Irish manufacturer of
gears, couplings and leadscrews was instigated
by the Miyano UK agent in Ireland, Premier
Machine Tools. The order highlights the
Miyano UK focus on one-hit machining
solutions for complex components; it
includes a swarf conveyor and barfeed plus
additional peripheral equipment to deliver a
turnkey package. www.macrocnc.co.uk
PowerKut plans for the
future with Mazak
WITH customers spread across a wide range of
industry sectors, including defence, nuclear
power, offshore and mining, Coventry-based
PowerKut was looking to the future by investing
in the latest metalcutting technology - in the
shape of an Integrex e-650H II multi tasking
machine tool. ‘Buying a machine of this size and
capability is important on a number of levels,’
said managing director Peter Everitt. ‘The 4m
bed length is crucial for one particular contract
that we have in the nuclear sector.’
