WITH a nano connection layer called Nanolock, Boehlerit, the cutting material centre of the LMT group (Leitz Metalworking
Technologie) has developed a ground-breaking innovation in hard metal coating. The
development will be the central element of coating innovations for milling, turning,
bar peeling and crankshaft machining products from the LMT group. Studies have
shown that the crystallite size of this special, high-temperature CVD Ti(C, N) layer is
approximately three times finer - only 25 nanometres - compared to the more often
used medium-temperature CVD Ti (C, N) layers. LMT-Boehlerit uses the Nanolock
connection layer to improve the cutting performance by up to 50% of turning grades
Steeltec LC215K, LC225K, LC240F, LC228E, and LC239Q. www.lmt-tools.de

FSG Tool & Die is the only UK based toolmaker that designs, builds, develops and installs press tools, injection moulds,
thermoform tools, forging tools and component prototypes.The company has over 260 customers around the world, some
of whom have been with FSG since its foundation in the early sixties. The company’s strength lies in its financial security,
and its people - FSG has operated an apprentice training scheme for 42 years. It has
invested £250k each year consistently for the last ten years and this is planned to
continue. All potential capital equipment investments are reviewed for ‘lights out’
capability; the company currently achieves between 700 and 2000 hours per

HUNTING plc, a major international force in the oil and gas industry, uses Mori Seiki
machines at its Bridge of Don and Badentoy sites in Aberdeen, for the production of
well service technology products including blow out preventer valves and stuffing
boxes as well as its range of oil country tubular goods. The company has achieved
efficiency improvements of 20% and higher, with anticipated payback within 16
months on its investment in Mori Seiki SL403 machines and six months on its new
