Charity Challenge!
Bananas bounced around Westfield
while penguins and bears filled the
streets of Derby! These were just a
few of the amazing and bizarre range of
activities and events which raised a
staggering sum of money for Children
in Need last term: more than £9000,
which is the College’s best effort yet!
Post-16 students set off bright and early
to collect money from all the generous
hearts around Derby, despite the typical
British weather. While we walked the
streets of the city, cakes were baked,
performances were rehearsed and
tutors were dressing up in costumes
ranging from Cleopatra to Hawaiian
dancers! Throughout the afternoon,
activities were hosted by different tutor
groups to create a fun atmosphere for
all to enjoy. Students got the chance to
Splat the Tutor in the Quad, eat and
drink a variety of unusual foods and
exotic drinks in Food Technology and
win prizes in many different
competitions.
Children in Need is a charity whose
mission is to change the lives of
disadvantaged children. Every year,
thanks to public donations and the
amazing efforts of fundraisers, schools
and businesses, they are able to
provide support to thousands of
youngsters aged 18 and under.
Aimee Mail, a Post-16 student, said
that: ‘The day was such a success. We
didn’t only have fun but we were able to
raise £9,000 for a fantastic charity.’
Next year, we are hoping to rise above
and beyond our efforts this year and
raise more money than ever before.
