THE Alligator All Wheel Drive (AWD) range of bandsaws is now
available from Saws UK. Capable of cutting material to a tolerance of
0.1mm, the machine is designed to deliver good surface finish, eliminate
waste prepare and prepare parts in away which optimises subsequent
production ops.
The CNC machine comes in four variants: AWD 4.2CNC, 6.2CNC,
8.2CNC and10.2CNC, with a cutting diameter in 90degrees of 410, 620,
820 and 1020mm respectively. The AWD concept pulls as well as pushes
the blade; this delivers an increased level of power that enhances
cutting performance, improves blade life, productivity and accuracy
whilst reducing noise levels.
The machine is built upon a polymer concrete machine base with a
frame that has two reinforced pillars for rigidity and stability. Blade
tensioning is controlled by a hydraulic cylinder located at the
intersection of the forces and alongside this, the blade wheels are fitted
between two ball bearings. This combination ensures the tensioning
forces of the blade are located at the centreline of the head.

The Alligator AWD range incorporates bar detection via laser linked
to the CNC system to change work from rapid to work feed mode. The
CNC automatically adjusts feed and speed, taking into account thermal
expansion and blade tension while the saw is in operation. The CNC
system also matches cutting conditions to workpiece material, and can
optimise the sequence of parts in quantities and lengths; this can be
linked to on-site reporting and communication networks.
The smallest machine, the AWD4.2CNC is powered by two, 5.5kW
motors whilst the 6.2, 8.2 and 10.2CNC machines receive their power
from two, 7.5kW, 8.6kW and 11kW motors respectively. Features also
include maintenance-free double material clamping in front and
behind the blade, double chip brush for band cleaning and material
detection for rapid and working feed as well as automatic trim cut and
cutting height adjustment. For high productivity environments, the
Alligator range incorporates a hinged chip conveyor and bundle
clamping capability for maximum cutting capacity.
