SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC
Schneider Electric provided Drax Power Station with
Quantum PLCs and Unity Pro software for its process
control systems’ update. The new process control
system for each generator set comprises 17 hotstandby
pairs of Quantum PLCs, supporting a total of
almost 8,000 I/O points. The I/O, all of which is remote,
is linked to the PLCs via dual redundant connections,
and the PLCs communicate with each other by means of
a self-healing Ethernet fibre-optic ring.
AXICLAMP
The new AxiClamp cable termination system
from Multi-Contact is available in two
versions: plug and socket that can be panel
mounted using the appropriate accessories,
and in-line versions for back-to-back splicing
of cable. The connectors are designed for
the electrical and mechanical connection of copper cables ranging from 6 to 300 mm2, class
5 and 6 according to DIN VDE 0295, IEC 60228. AxiClamp offers the reliability of crimp
connections but the advantage is they can be disconnected if required.
JAMES BEDFORD
James Bedford & Co has launched a new 68 page full
colour brochure packed with special offers and information
on its wide range of services and increased product range
for industrial and commercial interiors, including storage
cabinets, stainless steel equipment, workbenches, trolleys
and hazardous storage. All the products featured in the
brochure are manufactured using the latest equipment and
skilled labour to produce high quality products at
competitive prices in a specific lead-time.

GRUNDFOS
More than half the energy used in most pump systems could be
saved by switching to more efficient and correctly sized models.
The ‘Pump audit Tool’ from Grundfos will tell you how much
money you could save. It checks the efficiency of your current
pumps and highlights how much energy you could save by
switching to a more efficient pump. To find out more about the
Grundfos Pump Audit please contact Grundfos Pumps on 01525

HARWIN
Harwin has introduced a range of surface mount EMI/RFI shield
clips which reduce assembly time and simplify rework by
eliminating secondary soldering operations. Supplied in industrystandard
tape & reel packaging, Harwin’s RFI shield clips are
positioned on the board and soldered using standard SMT
placement equipment. The shielding can is then pushed into place
during final assembly. Because it is possible to remove and refit
the can adjustment and rework operations are simplified and initial
production and rework costs are reduced.
KEITHLEY INSTRUMENTS
Keithley Instruments, a leader in solutions for emerging measurement
needs, has introduced the Model 2308 Portable Device
Battery/Charger Simulator. A dual-channel battery- and chargersimulating
power supply designed to provide the lowest cost testing
of both the growing range of mobile phones with new, complex
transmission schemes and other types of new portable devices that
consume extremely low amounts of power. The Model 2308’s fast
transient output response maximizes production yields by maintaining
a stable voltage level under dynamic loading conditions.

TYCO ELECTRONICS
Tyco Electronics has introduced its P series module. A
multifunction power entry module for a wide range of
applications, with current ratings of up to 10A. Many optional
features are available in addition to three different mounting
options (screw-mounting on the horizontal or vertical side and
snap-in mounting). Modules are available with or without mains
switches and in various voltage options and customers can
choose universal filters, medical filters or high performance
filters depending on requirements.

ROCOL
Following the launch of Rocol’s FOODLUBE range, Rapid
Demulse 220 is helping to cut lubricant use by as much as
80 per cent in the bakery industry. Rapid Demulse is
helping several major bakeries address this issue very
successfully thanks to its excellent ability to separate oil
and water. By fitting new drain plugs, maintenance
engineers are now able to simply drain-off water from
Asser gearboxes, extending the service of the oil five-fold.
Haldex Concentric will make its first appearance as one
business at IAA 2008 since Haldex acquired Concentric.
Under it’s new management structure, the business unit will
show its expanded range of energy saving and
environmentally friendly technologies for the next generation
of diesel engines. As well as Concentric variable flow oil and
water pumps, it will show Haldex’s Varivent EGR technology
and the Alfdex oil mist separator.
British Airways is using the latest variable speed drive
technology from Parker Hannifin to cut energy consumption
by up to 95%, on air handling and environmental control
systems at its Flight Training centre at Heathrow Airport.
The variable speed drives are a key part of a long term
project to upgrade British Airways’ 18 simulator cells, and
are helping to cut energy and overall maintenance costs, and
to ensure that each flight simulator is available 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week.
TITANIUM PRODUCTS
Titanium Products has gained BS EN ISO 9001 certification
as a manufacturer of welded Titanium tube and a supplier of
seamless Titanium tube and strip. Over sixty sizes of small
diameter seamless and welded tubes are held in stock. Strip
is held in 0.4mm and 0.66mm thicknesses, with others
available down to 0.2mm. Welded tubes are supplied up to
16mm outside diameter and drawn tubes down to 0.8mm
diameter. Seamless tubes up to 25.4mm diameter are
produced by cold forming.
Zwick’s latest strain measurement system, laserXtens, has
successfully been used for applications in temperature chambers
where materials are typically exposed to temperatures from -70
to +250°C whilst being subjected to tensile or compressive
loads. laserXtens measures bi-axial strain without any specimen
contact. Part of the specimen surface is illuminated using the
principle of laser speckle interferometry. Which is tracked by
two digital cameras. Highly advanced real-time software
algorithms convert this data directly into strain.
