The Ecodan range of residential heating
products from Mitsubishi Electric received
further recognition at the prestigious
Micropower Awards Dinner recently with the
manufacturer praised for advancing the
acceptability of air source heat pumps. Ecodan
was shortlisted in the Innovation category and
although the overall award went to a MicroCHP
boiler, Ecodan was highly commended by the judges for the way Mitsubishi
Electric has designed the low carbon heating system to be easy to install by
existing plumbers and heating specialists. Ecodan has been designed to be as
plug and play as possible, so that it can fulfil the potential as the first massmarket
sustainable alternative for the UK. The system can help cut running
costs by over 30% and cut CO2 emissions by 50% against even the most
modern gas condensing boiler. Savings over oil, older gas boilers, LPG or
direct electric systems are even greater.

Energy monitoring specialist IntellyGreen has welcomed the Government’s
decision to fit every home in the UK with a smart meter by 2020.
The news was announced on May 11 by the Department of Energy and Climate
Change, which also launched a consultation into the plan. The switch will
allow householders to gain real time information about their energy use,
which Salvatore Cirasuolo, managing director of UK-based IntellyGreen,
believes will deliver substantial cost savings for end users and assist the
Government in moving towards a low-carbon economy. He said: “It is a
recognised fact that simply by monitoring power usage, bills can be cut for all
users, from householders to commercial and
industrial operators. Through IntellyGreen
we are already supplying wireless monitoring
systems for domestic and commercial use
for both electricity and gas.”

If space is at a premium, Jaga's trench heating systems may provide the
answer. The Mini Canal is designed to run below floor level and along the
perimeter wall of a room. This type of installation supplies a flow of warmth
that can mix with the fresh air from window ventilation to give a comfortable,
warm environment. The Mini Canal is available with either a wood, aluminium
or special decorative grille finishes. Jaga's
LowH2O radiators are low mass, low water
content products, using only a tenth of the
water and weight of that required by standard
steel panel radiators. This means faster
response, better comfort and lower fuel bills.
All Jaga LowH2O heat exchangers come with a
30 year guarantee. Because Jaga's heat
exchangers are so small and light, they are

The newest finishing company in the land uses one of the oldest building
materials in the world. Lime and green usually describe a colour. But in a
rather exciting development, the two are key attributes of this newly emergent
construction finishes company – ECF (EcoFinishes). At a time when much of
the construction sector is closing operations, it is good to hear of one
company that has decided that now is the time to launch. ECF is a specialist
contractor set up to provide construction finishes that are environmentally
sustainable – partly through use of lime-based finishing products - arguably
the world's first true GreenBuild materials.
ECF will offer plastering, dry lining, render
and specialist finishes that are composed
of environmentally friendly materials, this
includes providing sustainable cladding
materials such as timbers, all under the
banner of Building a Sustainable Future.
